Surveying is the technique of collecting evidence related to legal boundaries and the science of accurately determining the terrestrial or three-dimensional space position of points and the distances and angles between them. These points are usually on the surface of the Earth, and are often used to establish topography maps and boundaries for ownership or governmental purposes. In order to accomplish their objective, surveyors use elements of law, geometry, engineering, trigonometry, mathematics and physics.

Surveying is a requirement in the planning and execution of nearly every form of construction. It’s most familiar uses are in the fields of legal boundaries for land ownership, transportation, building construction, communications, and general mapping.

Road Survey Project
Garden Valley, Idaho
This 1997 project was a joint effort between CK3, LLC and Holiday Engineering, the purpose of this project was to collect survey topography data in areas where county roads were washed out during the spring floods in 1997. The project covered an area from Banks, Idaho to Garden Valley, Idaho. The work was mostly in areas close to the river and required repealing over the edge to collect needed data. CK3’s portion of this project lasted approximately four weeks.

Butter Creek Bridge (ODOT) Project
Construction Survey Project
Vinson, Oregon
This Project consisted of construction staking of a bridge and roadway. This was a Oregon Department of Transportation project in a little place known as Vinson, Oregon. The purpose for this project was to build a new bridge and realign the road so the curves weren’t as sharp. Some of the challenges of this project was its location which made for a considerable amount of travel in whatever weather there was at the time.

Sucker Creek, Oregon Ranch
Survey Project
Malheur County Oregon

This Project consisted primarily of the retracement of the original GLO Surveyors from 1898 the purpose was to define the Boundary of the Homestead Ranch site in Sucker Creek Oregon. Some of the challenges of this project were locating the original scribed stones, locating topo calls, the extreme weather conditions and the rough Owyhee country side that proves to always be as changing as spectacular.

United States Air Force Academy
Survey Project
Colorado Springs, Colorado
This Project consisted primarily of Geodetic Survey Control and the data collection for the development of a GIS database of all improvements on the five-mile by five-mile square Air Force Academy site, along with two offsite training areas. CK3, LLC worked closely with Insite Consulting Inc. and the Air Force developing unique code descriptors and attribute data tags. Some of the challenges of this project were weather conditions that ranged from a 60 degree day and the next day would be –12 degrees, the two months of living in a hotel away from home and family and the wild life that always seemed curious with our GPS Base station.

Touchet Road Reconstruction Project
Construction Survey Project
Dayton, Washington
This Project consisted of rebuilding of the road headed to the Bluewood Ski Resort. This was a Federal Land Highway Project just outside of Dayton, Washington. The purpose for this project was to rebuild sections of the road with rock retaining wall and to pave most of the road headed to the resort. Some of the challenges of this project was its location which made for a considerable amount of travel in whatever weather there was at the time. Extreme weather conditions while onsite, and heavy tree coverage that minimized visibility for the equipment mostly during slope staking up and down very steep grades.
